Ice hockey is a team sport played on ice in which skaters use sticks to shoot a hard rubber hockey puck into their opponent’s net to score points.
A team usually consists of four lines of three forwards, three pairs of defensemen, and two goalies.
The first official men’s international ice hockey tournament took place at the 1920 Antwerp Summer Olympic Games prior to the first ever Winter Olympics i.e, the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France while the Women’s ice hockey has been included in the Winter Olympic Games program since 1998.
Ice Hockey at Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics :
The ice hockey events of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics will be played at two venues located in the Olympic Park – the Bolshoy Ice Dome and the Shayba Arena.
Twelve teams will compete in the men’s tournament while eight teams will compete in the women’s tournament. Both the tournaments will begin on 8 February, with the women’s tournament concluding on the 20th February and the men’s concluding on the 23rd February 2014.
